SLJ - It's cool to be kind

L.I: Screenshot a kind comment that you really like and also screenshot your reply.

Today I have completed this activity. My topic for this DLO is "Its cool to be kind" and so I went searching for a comment on my blog that I thought was nice, and screenshot it then also screenshot my reply as well. As you can see I have chosen "Fiona Rua's" comment, she is part of the SLJ team and I really liked her comment because her feedback was really kind and her comment was also very relatable to my task. In return I have replied to her comment and I have thanked her for commenting on my blog post. I really enjoyed making this DLO because as I was looking for a kind comment I found many many kind comments.

SLJ - Te Huarere

L.I: To create and complete a sentence in Te Reo Maori.

Today I have done a Te reo Maori activity. I have copied a Slide show with activities that I had to complete The thing I had to complete was the sentences that were in te reo maori and I had to fill in the blank spaces. In my last activity I created my own maori sentence, I didn't only do 1 but I did 3 sentences and I would like you to try it out. I really enjoyed this activity because I got to learn more words that are translated in a different culture and I got to explain and create my own activity as well.

SLJ - Kiwi Jingle Bells

L.I: To write my own Christmas jingle bells kiwi song.

For today's activity I have written my own Christmas jingle bells kiwi song. In my DLO I have added Christmas images for decoration. In my song I have included the beach and fish & chips because in New Zealand Christmas is a time where it is very hot and most people spend there Christmas at the beach. I have also included jingle bells, Santa and Santa's slay because it is all part of Christmas. I hope everybody enjoys my song and Merry Christmas To All.

SLJ - Insect Art

L.I: To create an insect out of pieces of trees, leaves and many more nature.

This activity was me creating my own insect. I tried to make a insect but it didn't work so I choose to make an animal 'Turtle'. To make this animal I used one 'Taro leave' and drew the shapes that I was using for my turtle. After that I connected all of the pieces together, for my shell I also used the 'Taro leave' but I flipped it the other way so that it can stand out. To make my shell stay up I halved a small stick and put it underneath in a X shape. This is how I created my insect (animal) Art. I really enjoyed this activity because I found many different ways to make any animal or insect.

SLJ - Which one doesn't belong

L.I: To say which image doesn't belong and why?

This DLO was an activity that shows images and I had to write down my responds which were why and which image doesn't belong or match with the others. During this activity it got harder and harder but I think I still managed to pass it. This slide show was a very fun activity to do because at the end of my slide show I have made my own decision of pictures and anyone that see's my blog can try it out.

SLJ - Rise Up

L.I: To create my own song chorus.

For this activity I was able to write my own chorus. My chorus is about teamwork and friendship. I chose to write my chorus like this because at school to make my learning fun, I like collaborating with my friends, finishing my work and of course getting free time. I really had enjoyed writing this chorus because I got to write a chorus that ryhmes and because I got to share and tell my way of having fun when I'm learning.

SLJ - Haiku Poem

L.I: To write my own a haiku summer poem.

Today I've been working on this DLO. In this DLO I made my own haiku summer poem and I also showed some images of what my summer might look like. The first sentence is 5 syllables, the second sentence is 7 syllables and the last sentence is again 5 syllables. A haiku poem is when you can write a poem but you have to write it in how many syllables you are given. I really enjoyed making this DLO because I didn't really know what a haiku poem was but now I've learnt many facts about it.

SLJ - Optical Illusion

L.I: Create my own Optical Illusion.

Today I've completed an activity and this DLO is an Optical Illusion one. For the DLO I chose to find one and trace it. If you look at this optical illusion, you'll see two animals, a Bird and a Rabbit. This activity was quite fun because as I searched for optical illusion, I got to see many different ones and it was really tricky and hypnotising. Good luck on trying to find the two animals!!!

SLJ - Kowhaiwhai Pattern

L.I: To create my own kowhaiwhai pattern and to tell others about Tanerore.

Today I have been working on this DLO. The kowhaiwhai pattern is part of the activity that I have been doing, It represents the love of nature and the air that waves through aotearoa.  Tanerore the son of Tama-nui-te-ra and is the role of glistening air as he performs a haka for his mother Hine-raumati. Tanerore is the re presenter of the hot sun. Moari suspect that when the sun is shinning and really hot, then you can see Tanerore doing the haka for his mother. As the air shines and waves it joins memories of quaver hand actions.

Christmas Game

L.I: To create a digital board game for the juniors

This week we designed digital board games with a Christmas theme to play with the junior students. To play the game successfully they will need to read and follow the instructions, then use their counting skills to move around the board. Today we showed our Year 4 students how to make their own games. making this was fun because we made these for our younger kids.

Decorating The Tree

L.I: To decorate the tree in the office with our handmade decorations.

This Term LS2 was working on our sewing. We got to pick our holiday decoration and I chose a Palm tree with a pineapple sewed onto it, my other one was the chinese ying and yang and the last one was a tongan flag. We chose to hang them on the Christmas tree. Today most of the LS2 students have finished their sewing so we went to hang them on the tree we first went to the office where the tree was then when we got there we were talking with Mr Jonhstion (our client) about our holiday decorations and how they look and that if we had any thing we would do differently next time. Then we stood up one by one to hang our holiday decoration on the tree. This was fun and cool looking and we put our holiday decorations on the christmas tree.

Te Reo Maori word of the day

L.I: Creating a DLO about a Te reo maori word.

In LS2, today I was working on a Te Reo Maori DLO. This DLO is when you pick a maori word then write what in means in english. After that, I wrote facts about my te reo maori word. The word I chose was 'Whanganui' and in english it means 'Big Harbour'. As you can see in my DLO there are a bunch of facts about how long it takes to get there, what is whanganui, why is it called whanganui and many more facts. I really enjoyed making this DLO because I can show and tell people about different te reo maori words.

Operation Christmas Drop

LI: To write a summary of the story behind the Operation Christmas Drop in your own words.

For the last 68 years the men and women of the US air force who are based at Andersen Air force Base in Guam have been using a pilot training drill to drop much needed supplies to the people who live on the 50 remote islands that surround Guam. Today in LS2 we have been researching the Operation Christmas Drop. It is a tradition that started in 1952, with the help of many people donating money and volunteering to help wrap the presents to send to Guam , the air force Men & Women have been going around to 50 different islands and countries to drop off supplies in large crates that land with a parachute. It started off as an training exercise for the air force men & women to practise taking food supplies to there troops but then it began to be the longest US civil defence in the world. Something I have learnt and found interesting is that when they make the presents is that they use the same size boxes for all the presents. Doing this was fun and cool to learn what the US Air force is doing for Islands that are unfortunate to get things that we have and how the community is helping with this Operation.

Illustrated Story

LI: To write a pourquoi (tell me why or how) story that paints a picture in the mind of the reader.

Our challenge this week was to create a porquoi story that we would illustrate and share with our junior classes. A porquoi story tells us why something is the way it is. Our story tells why/how… This morning we shared our stories with Room 2 and Room 4, and they loved listening to them. I enjoyed doing this story because I got to work collaboratively with my friends and were very creative with our animated story.

Design Technology Challenge

L.I: To design and make a holiday decoration that fits the client brief.

This week, The LS2 students designed and created Holiday Decorations to hang on the christmas tree. We started off  by asking questions to our client  Mr johnston then we created a DLO(Brainstorm, mood board) with the information that Mr jontsthon gave us we did this DLO to understand what we are going to make and to see how many materials that we are going to use . The materials LS2 used were felt, thread, cotton, needles and many more but before we started on creating our designs we practiced how to do blanket stitching and running stitch so that we can get the hang of sewing. Some of the holidays people chose were Hanukkah, Dewali, Christmas and more. My decoration  that I made was a palm tree with a pineapple sewed onto it, my second one was a chinese ying and yang and my last one was a tongan flag. I’ve been working hard on these decorations and so had the rest of LS2. I really enjoyed this activity because I learnt how to do new things and even though I had some accidents with the needle I still had fun creating my decorations.

Art Colouring Book - Step it up Challenge

LI: To use TEEL paragraphs to explain our colour choice

Today I completed the Step it Up art challenge from the Summer Learning Journey activities. The purpose of this task was to explain our colour choice using the language and vocabulary we learnt from watching the information video. I used the TEEL paragraph structure to help me explain my thinking. My opinion about this colouring I made it no difference except for changing the colour of the background to green and the different colour for the 2 men on the elephant.

Art colouring book

 L.I: To experiment with colours.

This art design is called 'Women combing her hair'  and the artist is for art work is 'Goyo Hashiguchi'. This morning we tried one of this year’s Kick Start Summer Learning Journey activities. The purpose of this task was to experiment with colours by mixing colours from the original palette with pop colours. This allowed us to recolours famous painting or images of landmarks around the world. Something interesting about this activities was that I really liked how we could recolour some other art works from other famous artist.

Provocation: Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?

LI: To identify and consider the two perspectives of this provocation to help me form an opinion.

Today we made a provocation DLO. A provocation is an action or speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Today we considered both sides of the provocation which is the YES and the NO. Our provocation was Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?’ We then used that information to help us form an opinion that we were all happy with. Our opinion was a Yes and No because there are some reasons for why we need to wear a mask and there are some reasons for why we shouldn’t wear one. Both Yes and No reasons are equally important. We need to stay safe and away from the covid 19 and other diseases.

Maths Strategy (Lasagne)

L.I: To explain how we solved our maths equations.

For Maths we did Word Problems with our mixed math groups. We worked together to solve these equations. Our DLO (Digital Learning Object) is showing and explaining how we solved these Math Equations. The topic of our Math Equations were weight and mass. The equation we explained was about how many ingredients were used and we had to find out the weight of the missing ingredients to find out all the ingredients.

Tech, Rocketships

L.I: Is to learn about rocket ships and find out how many fins does the rocket ship need.

This week for tech, The year 7s Worked with Mrs Sharma and Mr Dunn. Mr Dunn showed us by explaining and understanding How many fins does the rocket need to fly ( No Fins , 2 Fins or 4 Fins). For my prediction. I think my rocket needs 4 fins to fly into the sky. We also started off by getting straws and making it into rocket ships. We created it by turning the front tip and bending it. After bending it, we needed to grab some scalar tape  and put it onto the straw.  We then started off by writing keywords that link to rocket science. We also learned interesting facts and information about rockets. The most interesting fact I learned was that there is a New Zealand Rocket company called Rocket Lab and learning about who works with them. Thanks again to Mr Dunn for helping and understanding more  on Rocket sciences.

Why is it important to use our PBS C.A.R.E values?

L.I: To write an explanation using TEEL paragraphs.

Voice recorder

This week we have been revising explanation writing. Next week is our assessment week so we did this collaborative challenge to remind ourselves what is needed when we write explanations. As we were writing our explanation our topic was "why is it important to use our PBS C.A.R.E values. After we finished writing we did our recording which basically is just me and my group reading our explanation writing. Through our writing our explanation I learnt that using the PBS C.A.R.E values can change the way others see you and using the C.A.R.E values can make others be inspired and they will follow by example.

Learning and understanding fractions

L.I: To learn how to group and split in fractions.

This week is our last session with Mr Fisi’iahi for this term as it was last week. For this week my group and I worked on fractions and played a game called Play tower of hanoi. We also used Multi Link cubes to help us understand fractions and to help us solve the questions. I really enjoyed playing with my partner solving fraction questions. We also played a game called Dicy numbers which got us into parnters. This game was really fun and competitive as we had to see who was the first one to win.  Understanding fractions helps us understand the groups, twice and the double. Double means twice as example 6+6=2 or 6 x 2=12.

Why is it important to make wise choices?

L.I: To structure and write an explanation.

Why is it important to make wise choices?

When it comes to bad decisions what do you do? Making wrong choices can make you face consequences. The consequences that you may face can be bad for example drinking alcohol under age, this can cause consequences such as getting a fine or going to jail. The bad choices that you might make can affect your body and mind set however, it is important to stay focused and positive therefore when it comes to bad choices.

Maybe everyone makes wise choices but does it always happen? Making wise choices play a big part of our actions. Making wise choices influences you to think positively however thinking positively can certainly affect the people around you in a good way. Many people have made wise choices but it is important that you make wise choices anywhere and everywhere.

In LS2 we were writing an explanation of why it is important to make wise choices. In my explanation writing for my first paragraph I wrote about what to do when it comes to bad decisions and in my second paragraph I wrote why it is important to make wise choices and what the consequences are if you don't make a wise choice. While doing explanation writing I learnt that the consequences are really bad if you break the law and if you don't follow the law in some other countries you can get death sentenced.

Who will get my vote

L.I: To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed choice.

In LS2 we made an election DLO. We were learning about the different parties which are National, Labour, Green and the NZ Maori. Our DLO is about who we vote for and if I was 18 I would vote for the green party because they have many reasons to help New Zealand and they also want to help families that struggle with money therefore if the Green party wins Marama Davidson should become prime minster. Something I learnt while doing this election DLO is that the government sets different age groups for different things do such as driving.

DARE to make a choice

L.I To create a DLO answering 4 questions.

Today LS2 was doing the DARE challenge. We were learning what kind of drugs there are and what it can do or how it can affect our body. The DARE challenge teaches you about whats good and whats bad also it tells you to make a wise choices. I worked with Fau and we both helped each other to create this DLO. As I was doing the DARE challenge I learnt that drugs can make you get addicted and I learnt to make wise choices when it come to bad situations.

Science & Technology

LI:To identify the different types and uses of plastic.

This week for tech the year 7's at Panmure Bridge School  learned about the different types of plastics. We also learned about Plastic, material, wood, paper and metal which helps us understand more about  plastics. We also played an activity that will give us more information on plastic. The activity we played was about looking around the class and trying to look for the different materials that we could see. The most interesting fact that I learnt was that every year 17 billion rubbish gets thrown away in the ocean.

Statistics with Mr Fisi'ahi

LI: Identify patterns and relationships between data.

Today for maths we did statistics with Mr Fisi’ahi.

We created a DLO for our bar graph that we made to count how many people on our data cards.

We used the data cards to count how many pre-teens and teens watch T.V and the most was the pre-teens.

While I was doing maths I learnt that when you're thirteen you're a teenager and when you turn twenty you

are an adult.

Another thing I learnt is that 0.5 is bigger than 0.25. I worked with my buddy Afa and we both completed

this DLO.

TIme

L.I to work out the elapsed time.

Today for maths our group used the maths clocks to help us work out the answer to the elapsed time questions. Elapsed means the time has gone by. I worked with my buddy Afa and we got most of our work done. The thing I learnt about today as I was doing maths is that you can read it in different types of ways.

Foot Prints

LI: To look for evidence in the data/an image and infer what might be happening.

This DLO is about Observation and Science.  I worked with Juel, Sulia and Fau. My group and I worked together to get this task completed. We looked for Images that we could use to help the readers understand our DLO. Me and my group completed this DLO by sharing our ideas ,Helping each other and Looking for images. The most important thing I learned was that Science is empirical which means it is based on observation.

Family Tree

L.I: To create a Family Tree about your family.

This week for our Te Reo Challenge, I created a DLO that talks about my family tree and it has all my family members names in it. I used Maori words that could help us understand  more about my  family tree. The family tree includes our siblings, parents, grandparents and great grandparents and it also has designs I traced and created.

It's cool to be me

L.I: To complete this task that will help you understand things about me.

This DLO is about me, This DLO can help you understand some things you may know or may not know about me. The  Dare program helps us and inform us with things  that can kill us and helps us make wise choices.  What I really enjoyed was writing down My goals for this year. One of my goals is To become a famous WNBA player. For example I want to be like Elena Delle Donne when I grow up and another goal I set is to get abs.

Sunflower painting

L.I: To paint a still life of sunflowers in the style of Vincent Van Gogh

In LS2 I painted some sunflowers drawn by Vincent van Gogh. Advice that I learnt about drawing is "Draw what you See". As I was painting I had to use up all the available space on the paper. The painting colours we used were yellow, copper, mustard and black. I didn't just have to paint it all on but I did have to blend and mix them together so that we can have different shades of colours. An important thing I learnt about painting is to not overload your brush with paint and you have to paint on the edges to make it sharp enough to see. I enjoyed painting the sunflowers because I got to draw, paint and learn about different things.

Algebra with Mr Fisi'ahi

L.I: To solve and create Algebraic equations.

Today my group and I  learnt Algebra with Mr Fisi’iahi. We started off by finding out the values of the animals. The animals we did were Piwaiwaka,Gecko,Kiwi,Tuatara and Pukeko. We summed up an answer then we  simplified the answers to make it easier to understand and explain what's happening. We created a DLO with our algebraic equations but we had to make the question unbalanced so that Mr Fisiah could make it balanced, we had to create for Mr Fisiah . I really enjoyed working with my partner and my group to answer the questions we’re trying to solve. These tasks and questions help us understand and explain what Algebra is.  We also learned how to balance the animals on a log or plan to make it equal and even.  I really enjoyed learning how to simplify the answers to make it easier to understand.

Tech Reflection

L.I: To identify what we know about "Science".

Today the year 7's from LS2 went to Tamaki college for Science technology. Our science teacher taught us about different equipment and how use them in science. The science equipment that I learnt about were the Testing Tubes, Bunsen Burner, Clamp stand, Tongs and Petri. The Testing tubes are for testing experiments, the Bunsen burner is for collecting gas and then you burn it so that you could hold the testing tube on top of it so that you burn the experiment you are doing. A clamp stand is to hold the testing tubes but only if it is hot and the tongs and perti are also like the clamp stand but you hold it like scissors. I was told to ask a question that includes science and my question was "What started the corona virus or who started it?".

Flood Information

L.I: To make a DLO about information for when there is a flood.

I made this slide show with my buddy and in this slide show it tells you what to do when there is a flood. A flood is when one whole destination gets covered up with water. In a flood you can swim or drive somewhere safe but you should never walk in the flood and the reason why you should never walk in a flood is because if the flood has fast moving water it can knock you over and it can cause injuries, you could drown or it could lead you to death. This DLO was made to keep people safe and healthy.

How to stay safe from a Flood

L.I: To create a DLO about how to stay safe from a flood.

In this DLO it talks about how to stay safe in a flood. A flood is when water covers the whole outside of a place. In my DLO I had to write steps of how to keep safe when you are caught up in a flood. I wrote how to say safe and I drew about it too. My favourite part of creating this DLO was that I learnt new facts about the flood and the challenging part was that I kept having to start again when I was tracing.

Scientist Research: Geology Mary Anning

L.I: To create a DLO about a Geology Scientist.

For this DLO I worked by myself and it just tells you who Mary Anning is. For this DLO I wrote information about who Mary Anning is and what was she famous for and I also wrote some interesting facts about about Mary Anning as well. when I created this DLO the part I enjoyed the most was learning fun facts about Mary Anning and my favourite fact is that Mary Anning taught herself to do things. The hardest part about creating this DLO was that I had to try put the information I researched in my own words.

Scientist research: Biology "Charles Darwin"

L.I: To create a DLO of a Biology Scientist

In this DLO it shows you about a biology scientist Charles Darwin. I had to find out information about him and I had to put it in the my own words. I wrote some facts about who Charles Darwin is and I wrote some information as well. The challenging part about creating this DLO was that it was hard to believe that Charles Darwin had 10 children and the most fun part about creating this DLO was that I found out a lot of interesting information about Charles Darwin.

Careers/ Sportsperson

L.I: To write what we need to study for our "Career".

In this DLO it shows what I will need to study about being a sportsperson. My career pathway follows through the important things I need to do, for inspiration my career I chose was a "sportsperson" so that means I will need to learn how to play sport and not only one but maybe all of them, I will need to study about the skills and drills and in school it would be a good chance to get a scholarship and graduate.

The part I found hard about this DLO was when I got confused if a sportsperson was a sport player, a coach or maybe both but I figured out that a sportsperson is an athlete. The part I learnt about my career as a sportsperson is that playing sport or being a sportsperson helps you to control your emotions and it also helps improve your skills in sport.
