List Poem

LI: To write a list poem that describes a topic by painting a picture with your words.

Today we wrote list poems about an anime character. Our challenge was to use descriptive language features to paint a clear picture with our words. I enjoyed this task because I like writing List Poems and because it describes who my character is and what her personality is.

Cinquain Poem

LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe an anime character.

This week we have been exploring the world of anime and manga. Our challenge today was to write a cinquain poem to help us strengthen our connections to description that describes our favourite anime/manga character. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. I chose Franklin Clinton from GTA because one of my favourtie things about Franklin is that he does bad things like stealing but finds a way to not leave evidence.

Goodbye Hello Poem

L.I: To write a list poem that describes a topic by painting a picture of opposites with your words.

For writing, me and my brother created our own Goodbye Hello Poem. A Goodbye Hello Poem is when you pick a topic like 'Lockdown' and then in a specific way, you write what you miss and what you don't miss before lockdown started. I think this is my second time writing one of these poems.  I enjoyed writing this poem because it was kind of creative and really fun to write.

List Poem

L.I: Create a listing poem about any poem.

For writing, me and my brother created our own list poem. A List poem is listing different things that link to the topic your writing about, for example we did 'The annoying things my brother/sister does. This poem was something different and it was my first time writing one of these. I enjoyed writing this poem because it was funny and at the same time me and my brother mocked each other #another thing we do to annoy each other. Someone who reads this and has siblings might be able to relate.

Anger

LI: To write an abstract noun scences poem.

Today me and my partner had a writing task with the whole classroom for Abstract Noun poems. Our task was to create a DLO of writing a poem using a  abstract noun. Abstract nouns are things that we can feel but we can't physically touch it. The 5 senses are sight, hearing, taste, smell and feel. First we had to pick a word from the list. And me and my group choose luxury. After we picked the word, we looked for a structure  in a example of given to us. After writing the poem we had to make a poem of us describing the word we have picken. We really enjoyed this activity, because it taught us how to create metaphors and poems, using abstract nouns.

Trust

LI: To write an abstract noun scences poem.

Today we had a writing task with the whole classroom for Abstract Noun poems. In this activity we learnt how to understand what a metaphor is and how we use them writing. We worked in groups to collaborate this challenge and make into a powerful eye catching DLO. Something we found interesting about doing this task was that we could take our writing to another level we could use a lot of different language features it was a fun piece of writing.

Cinquain Poem

L.I: To write a Cinquain Poem to describe a sports star.

We have been learning to write cinquain poems to help us strengthen our connections to description. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. I enjoyed this activity because I found some interesting words that describe my Sports Star.

A Moment In Time Poem

LI: To use the language features and structure of published poem to help use write our own poem.

We looked at the language features and structure of a poem called ‘A Moment in Time’ and used our experiences from camp to follow the structure and collaboratively create our own moment in time poem. To describe what we heard, what we saw, how we felt and what we wondered we used our senses, adjectives and adverbs. Ajectives are words like discribing something. Adverbs are like discribing someones actions. I found this interesting because we used different words that were more powerful than some normal words.

Settings

LI: To use powerful words to describe a setting so that it paints a clear picture in the mind of the reader.

  10 Word Challenge

You have 5 minutes to think of 10 words to describe this picture. I am only looking for words not phrases or sentences. You may NOT use the words purple, indigo, mauve, lilac or any other word that describes the colour

List your words here:

  • Undisturbed

  • Free

  • Peaceful

  • Landscape

  • Gentel

  • Silent

  • Calm

  • Magentic

  • Abstract

  • View

  • Sight

  • Low Tide

  • River

A Divine landscape. As I look upon the view I can hear nothing but peacefulness. The river strives down as fast as a person jogging. The tide was getting lower and lower as if the water was gonna go away forever. Branches and leaves swaying in the air as if they had arms.

A setting is the place, time and environment of a story to help a reader make a connection to your narrative you need to use your words in away that helps them form a picture of what you are describing in their mind. To do this we looked at an image and thought of 10 words that described and showed what we could see. Once we had thought of the adjectives or adverbs we used our smart searching skills to help us find synoymns that made our descriptions clearer. I found this interesting because I got to be creative and I liked using Word hippo to find different words.

5 Minutes of Camp

LI: To recount a 5 minute snapshot of one experience you had at camp.

My Amazing Risk It’s time! Time for me to finally take the risk of my life. Lining up with my group as we walked down a little, muddy, slippery row of stairs to get to our destination. Sitting down listening to the important rules that came out of the instructors mouth, making me feel sick and afraid. How can I be feeling like this and I haven't even taken a risk yet? It was my turn to finally face the scary vertical wooden pole called the ‘High Beam’. I thought I had all the confidence I needed until I realised that I was standing in front of the ladder getting ready to take my first step. Taua was holding the ladder, I looked at him hoping that he was holding the ladder still. I took a deep breath before I took my left foot and started climbing the ladder rung by rung. Everything's shaking and in my head I’m telling myself I can’t do it but I had to take the risk. Making my way up the ladder as I got to the last step of the ladder I took a deep breath and thought I can do this! Taking my first step as I go higher onto the first staple that is attached to that huge vertical pole. Going higher and higher I reached to the top and I bravley balanced on my two legs with only three people holding me by a rope. I took my first step along the beam and started walking thinking that I was gonna fall. My legs started to shake but I had to carry on, finally making it to the end of the beam hugging the pole and not letting go. Almost done, almost done I kept telling myself as I was trying to finish completing the high beam. Letting go of the pole as I start walking to the middle of the beam. I thought to myself, ‘Phew’ I completed the high beam but then I realised I was still not finished, I had to get down to the ground. I looked down, which made it worse, trying my best not to cry as I leaned back getting ready to come back down onto the ground. To me this was scarier than climbing the pole. Taking me three to five tries to lean back so that the instructor could lead me down, I kept thinking I was going to fall. Leaning back and taking that one big risk, I did it! I took the risk and finally accomplished my goal. I am proud of myself for being a risk taker. Heavenly. U

Last week we went to camp at Kokako Lodge. My 5 minute snapshot shows my personal voice and I have tried hard to paint a picture with my words to describe what I was doing and how I felt. I found this activity fun and interesting because I got to write about the scariest activity to me and I got to express my feelings about how I felt Before and After I took my risk and completed the activity.

T.E.E.L Paragraph

L.I: To understand how TEEL paragraphs can help us structure our information and ideas in a paragraph.

We use paragraphs in our writing to expand on an idea. In LS2 we use the TEEL acronym (title, elaborate, evidence and link) to help us structure our thinking. The example on my DLO shows what Topic Sentence means , Elaborate,Evidence and Linking how and why I found this task really fun and enjoying to do as I learned new things and understood what to do.  I also wrote in my DLO what TEEL means and what it does to help us understand writing paragraphs.

Illustrated Story

LI: To write a pourquoi (tell me why or how) story that paints a picture in the mind of the reader.

Our challenge this week was to create a porquoi story that we would illustrate and share with our junior classes. A porquoi story tells us why something is the way it is. Our story tells why/how… This morning we shared our stories with Room 2 and Room 4, and they loved listening to them. I enjoyed doing this story because I got to work collaboratively with my friends and were very creative with our animated story.

Why is it important to use our PBS C.A.R.E values?

L.I: To write an explanation using TEEL paragraphs.

Voice recorder

This week we have been revising explanation writing. Next week is our assessment week so we did this collaborative challenge to remind ourselves what is needed when we write explanations. As we were writing our explanation our topic was "why is it important to use our PBS C.A.R.E values. After we finished writing we did our recording which basically is just me and my group reading our explanation writing. Through our writing our explanation I learnt that using the PBS C.A.R.E values can change the way others see you and using the C.A.R.E values can make others be inspired and they will follow by example.

Why is it important to make wise choices?

L.I: To structure and write an explanation.

Why is it important to make wise choices?

When it comes to bad decisions what do you do? Making wrong choices can make you face consequences. The consequences that you may face can be bad for example drinking alcohol under age, this can cause consequences such as getting a fine or going to jail. The bad choices that you might make can affect your body and mind set however, it is important to stay focused and positive therefore when it comes to bad choices.

Maybe everyone makes wise choices but does it always happen? Making wise choices play a big part of our actions. Making wise choices influences you to think positively however thinking positively can certainly affect the people around you in a good way. Many people have made wise choices but it is important that you make wise choices anywhere and everywhere.

In LS2 we were writing an explanation of why it is important to make wise choices. In my explanation writing for my first paragraph I wrote about what to do when it comes to bad decisions and in my second paragraph I wrote why it is important to make wise choices and what the consequences are if you don't make a wise choice. While doing explanation writing I learnt that the consequences are really bad if you break the law and if you don't follow the law in some other countries you can get death sentenced.

Making Choices

L.I: To create a DLO about what emergency service you would join and how would they help if there was a natural disaster.

In this DLO I created it shows and tells you what choice I've made about what emergency service I would join if I had a choice and I chose the New Zealand police because I would want to take care of New Zealand (Aotearoa). My DLO talks about how is the New Zealand helpful when it comes to a natural disaster. While making this DLO I learnt that the New Zealand police have to past exams to get there career(job). The New Zealand police are here to protect us and they are here to keep us safe from danger.

Flood Information

L.I: To make a DLO about information for when there is a flood.

I made this slide show with my buddy and in this slide show it tells you what to do when there is a flood. A flood is when one whole destination gets covered up with water. In a flood you can swim or drive somewhere safe but you should never walk in the flood and the reason why you should never walk in a flood is because if the flood has fast moving water it can knock you over and it can cause injuries, you could drown or it could lead you to death. This DLO was made to keep people safe and healthy.

How to stay safe from a Flood

L.I: To create a DLO about how to stay safe from a flood.

In this DLO it talks about how to stay safe in a flood. A flood is when water covers the whole outside of a place. In my DLO I had to write steps of how to keep safe when you are caught up in a flood. I wrote how to say safe and I drew about it too. My favourite part of creating this DLO was that I learnt new facts about the flood and the challenging part was that I kept having to start again when I was tracing.

Scientist Research: Geology Mary Anning

L.I: To create a DLO about a Geology Scientist.

For this DLO I worked by myself and it just tells you who Mary Anning is. For this DLO I wrote information about who Mary Anning is and what was she famous for and I also wrote some interesting facts about about Mary Anning as well. when I created this DLO the part I enjoyed the most was learning fun facts about Mary Anning and my favourite fact is that Mary Anning taught herself to do things. The hardest part about creating this DLO was that I had to try put the information I researched in my own words.
