Maths words Challenge

L.I: To practise defining maths vocabulary words

To help us practise the meaning of maths words. Mrs Anderson taught us a game called maths word challenge. I worked with Leroy and Afa on this game.  To play the game 2 players found a word from the maths word game,  then had to give a clue to the person trying to  figure out the math word who was sitting with their back to the other players.

Summarising Matariki

L.I: To summarise the Matariki story.

This was our second matariki blog post about matariki. We had to summarise about matariki we had had to pick 20 important words from our knowledge about matariki. Also we had to pick 6 most important words, then we had to summarise those those words in sentence.

Gold fish going into the goldfish bowl

L.I: To create and draw our own goldfish in the bowl.

This DLO shows what we made and how we made it. This game was really enjoying to play because it looked like  the fish was jumping into the water. We created a dlo that shows how we made it so you can make it a home as well.

What is Matariki

L.I: To explain what is Margarita is and why we celebrate it.

This DLO shows what is Matariki and information about matariki. We used our searching skills to find these interesting facts and information.  This DLO will help me and others that don’t know what is matariki and information about matariki.

Matariki Stars

L.I: To draw and create a Matariki cluster.

Today for our new Te reo challenge in LS2 was that we had to create and draw our own image of the Matariki stars. This DLO is about what Matariki is and it shows what people do in Matariki. Matariki has six Tupu-a-nuku, Tupu-a-rangi, Waipuna rangi, Ururangi, Waiti and Waita. On Matariki the maori people usually come together and eat hangi and during that the maori people tell stories about the maori legends. A facts I learnt about Matariki is that the Matariki star is a cluster on Matariki night you can see the seven stars yourself.

Translator/ Careers

L.I: To explore a career that interests me

I took the career quest quiz to help me find a career that interests me. At the end the tree options I chose were Cooking, Chief and Wine maker. This DLO shows what will happen if you are a cooking chief. These ideas help me find out why I want to be a cooking chief and how much money they pay me if I become a cooking chief.

Today LS2 had technology and we made saagwala with Mrs Heka. I worked as a group with Fau and Juel. As we made saagwala we got given oil, curry powder, an onion, garlic, spinach, crushed tomato, yogurt and salt. We started by oiling our pot then chopping the onion and garlic to put it in. Second we added our spinach and our crushed tomato's then mixed it. Third we put in our yogurt, salt and curry powder for our seasoning. To finish it off we added rice and there we had it, we made our DELICIOUS saagwala.

Sources Of Light

L.I: To learn about the different types of lights.

This is a DLO that shows my groups understanding of sources of light. I worked with Juel, Sulia and Fau, we all shared our ideas to create this DLO. Working through this DLO I learnt that the moon, sun, stars, fire, rainbow and lightning can make light and there are insects that can make light such as the glow worms. The hardest part of the DLO was when I had to describe and write the information about the different types of light but in my own words.

Food Technology

L.I: To make vege noodles.

At  Food Technology today, LS2 made vege noodles in the Tamaki College kitchen with Mrs Tuipulotu our reliever.
For our first lesson we got given green beans, carrot, broccoli and onions to chop. As I cut made the noodles Fau cut up the beans and broccoli while Juel cut the onion and did the dishes.
While we finished cutting the veges, my group had to oil a pan to put in our veges so that we could fry them. Our seasoning we got given were Soy sauce and Oyster sauce put together with brown sugar.
I put all of them together with the veges and noodles while Fau mixed it and Juel made sure that our area was clean. After all the things we did for Food Technology, LS2 finally finished cooking so we got to eat it and it was very DELICIOUS.

5 Facts About Light

L.I: To show 5 facts about light that we find interesting.

We worked collaboratively to create a DLO that shows facts about light. One fact that interests me is Light is made out of 7 colours which is called ROYGBIV because the 7 colours are blending together to make a rainbow.

How Periscopes Work

L.I: To explain how periscopes work.

Mr Johnston came and taught us what periscopes are,how they are used and who uses them. We found
that the angle of incidence equals there angle of incidence equals the angel of reflection. That means if the light hits the mirror at 4.5 deggreesit reflects the light back.
It was fun because we get to write our names on the mirror.

Maths Challenge

L.I: To find the most efficient strategy to solve the problem.

This week for maths we had to solve another question. In pairs we created a DLO showcasing our strategy and thinking, to complete this DLO Fau and I worked together. First I and Fau found the main information from the question. The question was asking "How much money would PBS have left", the main information was that each calendar = $12. 149 calendars sold, $6.90 went to the calendar making company. To solve the question we used written algorithm and place value.

Polynesian Panthers

L.I: To read the information in the text, to create a DLO about the "Polynesian Panthers".

Sakshi and I have collaboratively worked together on this DLO. This DLO is about the Polynesian panthers that protested for the dawn raiding. Polynesians that were sent to New Zealand were only here for an amount of time but if they stayed longer then they were the police will always dawn raid their houses. The people stayed longer were called over stayers and they only got caught because some people snitched on others that were over stayers.

The thing I found interesting was that Polynesians were part racism.

Evaluation

L.I: To read the information in the text, think about what you have read and form an opinion.

In this DLO Kakapo (reading group) has worked together to find out information about the Polynesian Panthers. During this activity I have learnt that Polynesian panthers were people from the pacific islands that protested for being treated unequally and to stop police from dawn raiding their houses because of the over stayers. In this activity we were able to find important events linked to the Dawn raids such as the Polynesians panthers getting dawn raided. As we did that we carried on with the second part witch ask us to pick witch two events were the most important to us and we asked some questions on the parts we we did not know about.

To finish off with our activity, in our own opinion we had to say if we thought the Polynesian panthers had the right protest and I said yes because they have been separated from their families, people have been racist about their skin colour and no one should be surprised early in the morning just to be deported back to where they came from.

Kowhaiwhai Patterns

L.I: To design a Kowhaiwhai pattern for our PBS Te Reo blog

Information: A kowhaiwhai pattern is a traditional maori artwork. You can find different kowhaiwhai patterns carved in many ways in a marae

Meaning: My kowhaiwhai pattern is the meaning of love and nature. The korus represent the nature God and the 2 koru hearts in the middle, represent the love and respect we have for all traditional, maori people.

Food Technology

L.I: To create a chicken salad

Today LS2 had Tech and we were thought by Mrs Heka how to make curry chicken salad at Tamaki college. In the middle lesson we were given red cabbage, carrot, onions and raw chicken . All our ingredients were washed and ready to be cut. As we started cutting I got to cut the meat and my 2 other group friends cut the veges. As I got started I grabbed the biggest raw meat to chomp up. When I cut my meat up I had to make it the same size so that it can all cook at the same time. All my ingredients were all cut and ready to be cooked. Before we started to cook the ingredients we added oil to the pot and then put the  onions in. We mixed our oil and onions then we got given cooked rice to add in our food. As we started adding our meat and veges, we were also given curry powder, beans and corn then we mixed all of them together and made a fresh curry chicken salad.

Wahine Disaster

LI: To use the information you gained from the text, to create a DLO about the Wahine Disaster.

Kakapo (reading group) has split in to groups of three and all the groups have made a DLO where they put information that they have found from the wahine disaster text. The information that was found by my group was that the disaster was one of the worst disasters in New Zealand. It happened on the 10th of April 1968 and it killed 50 people on board. The wahine was on its way from Lyttelton as it was travelling all the way to Wellington. The wahine sunk in wellington harbour. Till this day it is still a abandoned boat that is 11.6 metres down deep in the water.

Summarising the escape of wahine

L.I: To explain in fewer words what the text is about.

Kakapo(our reading group), had worked together to summarise about the "escape" from the Wahine" text. This book was based on a real event that happened on the 10th of April 1968. As a group we wrote down 20 words that we thought were important from the wahine disaster, as we finished that we carried on to choosing the most 6 important words that inspired us from the wahine disaster story and the last task was to use our 6 words that we chose to use them so we can make a summarising sentence.
